Why is Eratosthenes' method only an estimate?

I used his method to measure the cirference of the Earth today (Equinox, I know that the sun is 90 degrees at the Equator). After the whole process, I got 39,960 km. The actual distance is 40, 075 km. Why is his method off a little? In other words, what are the restraints of his method?
